Made Some Adjustments
We are still at no detox, I believe. I am now making sure Mike gets yucca sprinkled on his protein, by making his lunch for him. We are not doing so well on making sure he takes a B-12 pill (under-the-tongue) at every meal. This is what is supposed to be pushing detoxification. I think that shots will probably work better for us. Also, he is not keeping to the diet 100 percent--in particular he likes great big glasses of fruit juice, which I know contains a wallop of natural sugar. Our telephone appointment with Dr. Nancy Mullan in Burbank, California, is Oct. 18. Perhaps she will be able to figure out why we are not detoxing, could give advice on how important it is that he follow certain diet restrictions, and could prescribe B-12 shots.

What I Am Trying Now
In particular, I don't have control over what he is eating at school--he is buying his lunch. So I am thinking of making his lunches for him. Also I had been taking a shortcut, not eating yucca every time he ate protein, but just taking one capsule once a day. I am trying to rectify this. It seems to be very important.
What I don't know is whether these things are important: he is guzzling fruit juice, which is very sweet, and he is supposed to be on a low-sugar diet. Also he is drinking a large glass of milk at least once a day, and he is supposed to be going low on calcium.
I guess I need to pose these questions to the forums on her Web site.
I should mention that I put myself on a couple of aspects of this protocol. I believe that I have the same "biggie mutation" gene, C699T (which causes the methylation cycle to produce a lot of ammonia instead of methyl groups). I am not autistic and never have been. Estrogen has protected me most of my life, but now that is ebbing, and I have occasional trouble with brain fog. I am taking the ammonia RNA formula, same as Mike, and also putting yucca on my protein, and the brain fog is improving A LOT.

This blog describes how we started out on the protocol by Dr. Amy Yasko, who many say has cured or improved children with autism using a genetic-based nutrition therapy.
